Nexuzhealth expands operations into the laboratory sector

Nexuzhealth is strengthening the digital services of the healthcare market with the addition of software services for laboratory activities alongside its current offerings. With this, nexuzhealth moves a step closer to completing the patient-centric ecosystem.

Nexuzhealth connects patients, healthcare institutions and healthcare professionals through a centralised electronic health record (EHR), which can now be enriched with laboratory data via a software platform for laboratories. Nexuzhealth is investing in a new Laboratory Information System (LIS) - nexuzhealth lab - that numerous laboratories can use in the future.

From now on, all healthcare-related software activities in the ICT group Cegeka are bundled within nexuzhealth. “More concrete, this means that the existing operations of Connected Health - for example, the digital flow of the lab activities, the C-Meal application that enables the ordering of personalised meals tailored to patients' medical needs - are moving from Cegeka to nexuzhealth”, says Gertie Delande, CEO of nexuzhealth. “We are convinced that this strategic decision will enhance the quality of care. The software will be designed to provide laboratories with the latest technology to improve accuracy, efficiency and collaboration.

This will also facilitate the integration of lab results into nexuzhealth's centralised electronic health records. It will also improve collaboration between healthcare providers and general practitioners, with the possibility to display the results of their lab requests in their EHR”, says Delande.

Focus on healthcare solutions and ambition for SaaS platforms

“With nexuzhealth, our ambition is to advance our specialisation in the development of SaaS platforms. The laboratory market will be the first new segment that we focus on. Thus for example, we will be developing a new Laboratory Information System to offer future solutions to the current customer base, with UZ Leuven as our first signed customer”, Delande said. “Our platform will be a future proof LIS with operational efficiency at its core. It will have extensive integration capabilities within the healthcare industry.” The acquisition also involves a change in nexuzhealth's shareholder structure, with Cegeka increasing its stake to 56% of the shares and UZ Leuven retaining 44% of the shares.

Internationalisation of nexuzhealth

By integrating the Cegeka healthcare activities within nexuzhealth, the company will expand into an organisation with a turnover of 50 million euros and 350 employees. “It also marks the first step towards internationalisation for our company. The existing Laboratory Information System that we are taking over from Cegeka has customers in Belgium and across the border in France and Switzerland, among others”, says Delande, who emphasises that existing customers can also rely on the new software platform in the future, which prioritises collaboration among healthcare providers and patients.
