The Sint-Jozefskliniek in Izegem will soon start working with the nexuzhealth electronic health record (EHR). The choice of the Clinical Workstation, the EHR from nexuzhealth, is perfectly in line with the innovative path the hospital intends to pursue. Through the cooperation, the Sint-Jozefskliniek joins the nexuzhealth network, which already includes half of the Flemish hospitals. The implementation of the software system will start in September 2018.
The Sint-Jozefskliniek mainly focuses on patients from the region. This hospital in Izegem has a staff of 600 and 66 doctors and takes care of about 555 births, 8,700 hospital admissions and 14,500 emergency admissions per year. “Our hospital puts the patient first and focuses on quality of care, the experience of care, patient safety and patient orientation. The EHR gives us more options to improve that,” explains David Struyve, surgeon and member of the IT Committee.
Digitalisation as the key
Concretely, the choice for the nexuzhealth EHR is based on three pillars. With the nexuzhealth EHR, Sint-Jozefskliniek first of all chooses the platform that is best suited to its needs. David Struyve confirms: “The EHR allows us to fully digitise both the medical and nursing records, as well as medication management. And all in the same structure. In this way, all relevant patient information becomes readily available within the hospital.”
Easier data exchange within the nexuzhealth network
In addition, the use of the EHR plays an important role in the improvement of care quality and mutual cooperation with other hospitals. “By choosing nexuzhealth we ensure adequate compatibility with our main partner AZ Groeninge. Because all information is now stored in the same medical record, we can easily share information like patient data and research results. The EHR also gives us the opportunity to develop uniform structures across the two hospitals,” says Dr Struyve.
Cooperation as a key success factor
Care of the future = network care. Gertie Delande, CEO of nexuzhealth: “The care of the future will be characterised by various networks working together around the care recipient. The KWS is completely in line with this vision of the future and optimally supports the cooperation between network hospitals, between hospitals and the eHealth services, between hospitals and the first line, … We are already looking forward to guiding the Sint-Jozefskliniek in this.”
